Southwest Opens Apartment Project on Halifax Waterfront

Southwest Properties has opened a new apartment project on the downtown waterfront in Halifax.

“There are 231 suites here on site, six different restaurants will be going into the base on the ground level, right on the boardwalk,” Colin Beiswanger, Southwest’s commercial leasing manager, told CTV.

The Cunard Residences building stands 16 storeys, according to CTV. Beiswanger indicated that food and beverage offerings will play a key role in the property and the future development of the waterfront.

“You really try to do a bit of place-making,” he told CTV. “People come to the waterfront and what do they come for? Right now it’s food. It’s dining experiences.”

Zoey Boosey and Kent Scales will co-own a new restaurant named Asia in the development, offering food from several Asian countries, according to Southwest’s news blog.

“I’ve only lived in Canada for eight years and I’ve seen a massive change in the waterfront,” Boosey, who is originally from the U.K., told CTV. “It’s a lot more cosmopolitan now in Nova Scotia, it’s growing in size and stature.”
