Stantec Acquires Irish Engineering Consultancy Ryan Hanley

Stantec has acquired Ryan Hanley, a 150-person Irish engineering and environmental consultancy, marking a significant step in the Edmonton-based company’s efforts to deepen its footprint in Ireland.

With offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, and Castlebar, Ryan Hanley brings nearly a century of local expertise, strong client relationships, and deep technical knowledge, particularly in the water sector. The firm has delivered innovative solutions for local authorities, utility companies, government departments, and private clients across the country.

“Through deep and meaningful collaboration, Ryan Hanley and Stantec have proven our ability to deliver outstanding results for clients and communities in Ireland,” said Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president and CEO. “Innovation and purpose are at the heart of both of our businesses, and this new chapter is the logical next step in our collective journey. Together, our shared capabilities, expertise, and creativity will help address some of Ireland’s biggest challenges.”

Ryan Hanley has been a key local partner for Stantec through a joint-venture since 2020. The collaboration played a central role in supporting Uisce Éireann (UÉ) under its engineering design services Framework, part of a €3.5-billion asset delivery investment. In 2023, the partnership was appointed to UÉ’s capital works PMO services framework.

Currently, the two firms share office space in Dublin’s city centre, which was officially opened by former Taoiseach (Deputy Prime Minister) Simon Harris in 2024.

For Ryan Hanley, joining Stantec opens the door to expanded opportunities in energy, transport, and community development, while tapping into the global resources and network of the Canadian firm.

“Over the last 90 years, we have grown to become a values-driven business, founded on passion and integrity as well as doing what is right for communities and the environment,” said Ger Gibney, managing director of Ryan Hanley. “This will not change as Ryan Hanley becomes part of Stantec, a firm that has shown itself to be a hugely valuable partner with an ethos similar to our own. We are all excited for what feels like a natural stage in our evolution as we continue to grow our numbers and drive project excellence across Ireland.”

Stantec-Page

Stantec has announced plans to acquire Page, a prominent U.S.-based architecture and engineering firm with 1,400 employees and a legacy dating back to 1898.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Page operates in 20 cities across the U.S. and Mexico, including Austin and Houston in Texas, Denver, New York City, and San Francisco.

The acquisition will significantly enhance Stantec’s footprint in the U.S., boosting its U.S. buildings practice by approximately 35% and expanding its U.S. workforce to about 13,500.

Stantec will also be able to grow its global market presence, said Gord Johnston, the firm’s president and CEO.

With the integration of Page, Stantec is expected to become the second-largest architecture firm in the U.S. and the largest integrated architecture and engineering firm in North America.

Page’s portfolio includes award-winning projects in healthcare, aviation, advanced manufacturing, civic, academic, and commercial sectors. Notable projects include the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., the John A. Paulson Center at New York University, and the Indeed Tower in Austin.

The acquisition is aligned with Stantec’s 2024-2026 strategic plan and strengthens its offerings in high-growth markets such as data centres, healthcare, cleanroom design, and semiconductor facilities. Stantec will fund the transaction through existing funds and credit facilities.

The deal is expected to close following regulatory approvals. Terms were not disclosed.
