Starlight to Buy U.K. Build-to Rent Portfolio

Starlight Investments has agreed to purchase a seven-building portfolio of build-to-rent (BTR) apartment buildings under development in the U.K.

Toronto-based Starlight announced that it will purchase the portfolio from Bellway London for an undisclosed price. The buildings are located in Dartford, Kent near (but not considered part of) London.

The 232-suite community is being built in three phases. The units include fully furnished studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites.

Starlight is also slated to acquire a 3,500-square-foot commercial unit to be developed within the site.

The company said the transaction marks another milestone in its European residential asset management platform, which was launched in 2023.

The proposed purchase adds to Starlight’s acquisitions to date in Manchester, Liverpool, Ashford and Leeds and will increase the firm’s U.K. portfolio to about 1,250 suites with another 1,500 suites in the development pipeline.

“We are pleased to establish Starlight’s presence in Dartford, a city with a strong heritage and direct connections to major regional employment centres,” said Daniel Drimmer, Starlight’s founder and CEO, in a news release.

“The addition of this community is part of our broader U.K. expansion strategy and showcases our continued momentum in the UK’s dynamic and growing BTR market.”

Starlight is a leading global real estate investment and asset management firm with about $28 billion of assets under management.
