Telus Garden Achieves Zero Carbon-Performance Certification
Downtown Vancouver’s trophy-class Telus Garden office tower has earned Zero Carbon-Performance certification from the Canada Green Building Council.
Morguard announced the certification in a news release.
“This certification is a strong step toward meeting our sustainability goals and demonstrates Telus Garden’s leadership in low-carbon building operations,” said Morguard.
Telus Garden’s sustainable features include:
- No On-Site Combustion: Heating is provided by a third-party central plant deploying electric heat pumps, with supplemental steam provided by Creative Energy and no fossil fuels being burned on-site.
- Verified Emissions Tracking: Morguard calculates a detailed annual carbon balance.
- Carbon Offsets: Telus Garden purchases carbon offsets each year to balance emissions generated by electricity and district steam use.
- Grid-Aware Operations: Morguard monitors peak electricity demand to help reduce strain on the local electrical grid as buildings move toward full electrification.
Morguard manages Telus Garden while holding a 20% ownership interest. TD Greystone is the majority owner.
