Tim Hortons, Its Restaurant Owners Investing $400M to Renovate, Build 480 Locations

Tim Hortons and its restaurant owners are investing $400 million this year to build 80 new restaurants and renovate 400 existing locations across Canada, the company announced.

The investment includes $270 million from franchised restaurant owners and an additional $130 million from the parent Tim Hortons company. A total of 340 owners are participating in the 2026 expansion and renovation program.

The icon donut-shop company said 280 owners are renovating 400 restaurants while another 60 owners are building 80 new locations nationwide. Ontario will see the largest share of the activity with 214 projects, followed by Alberta with 66 and Quebec with 65. British Columbia is slated for 51 projects.

“Tim Hortons was built in Canada by Canadians, and we are proud to continue investing in Canada to give our guests beautiful, modern restaurants to enjoy,” said Axel Schwan, president of Tim Hortons. “These are Canadian families investing their own money in their own communities – and that’s something we’re proud of.”

The renovations are aimed at improving restaurant layouts, digital ordering and pickup areas, baked- goods displays and kitchen equipment, while also highlighting Tim Hortons’ Canadian heritage through updated designs and artwork.

Tim Hortons said the projects will create work for local tradespeople and suppliers across the country, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers and general contractors. The company also said renovation materials and fixtures are sourced through Canadian-owned businesses whenever possible.

The Tims announcement comes after franchisor Foodtastic announced plans to open hundreds of Dunkin’ locations across Canada, marking the U.S. chain’s return to the Canadian marketplace.
