Two New Rental Housing Towers Proposed for Oakridge

Wesgroup is proposing to build two new mixed-use rental multi-residential towers in Vancouver’s Oakridge district.

Vancouver-based Wesgroup has filed a rezoning application with the city, which closed submissions of public comments in mid-October. Plans call for 25-storey and 17-storey developments to be constructed on a podium at 5755-5791 Oak Street and 1008 West 41st Avenue.

The buildings would contain 357 secured rental units altogether with 20% of the floor area, approximately 72 units, set aside for below-market housing. The 269,608-square-foot site would include 16,398 sf of ground-level retail space, 224 vehicle parking spaces and 696 bicycle parking stalls.

Wesgroup’s project, headed development manager Aly Carlson, is one of many slated for Oakridge as its mall of the same name undergoes a massive redevelopment and spurs change throughout the area.

Vancouver-based Concert properties plans to redevelop the Langara Gardens apartments into a 2.8-million-square-foot site. In September, the federal government invested $107.5 million in the 215-unit W42 apartment building now under construction near Wesgroup’s proposed development.
