Uniqlo Set to Open First Winnipeg Store in May

Global apparel retailer Uniqlo will open its first Winnipeg location at CF Polo Park Mall on May 15.

Japan-based Uniqlo previously said it would open the Polo Park location this spring but did not set a set. With growing customer affinity for its LifeWear clothing line, Uniqlo said previously, the chain is well-positioned for Manitoba and set to become accessible to more Canadians.

“This is a massive milestone for Uniqlo in Canada,” Yuya Tanahashi, chief operating officer of Uniqlo in Canada, said previously. “As Uniqlo continues to resonate with Canadian customers, Winnipeg offers exciting potential. We aim to deliver essential clothing that complements their lifestyles as building blocks of their wardrobe. We look forward to introducing our innovative LifeWear products here, and to engaging with new customers

Uniqlo operates more than 2,500 stores worldwide, including 37 in Canada, alongside its Canadian e-commerce site. Founded with the opening of its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, the company says its apparel reflects Japanese values of simplicity, quality, longevity and comfort.

As part of the Winnipeg launch, Uniqlo will expand its hiring efforts in the city, promoting a welcoming and inclusive workplace. The retailer is encouraging candidates to apply through its career page and plans to host a series of career fairs where prospective employees can learn more about available roles.

Uniqlo is also slated to open a new store at Winnipeg’s St. Vital Centre, according to multiple reports. The retailer has not commented on the reports, but CBC previously reported that the St. Vital location will open later this year.
