U.S. Consulting Giant Bain & Co. Opening New Montreal Office

Bain & Company will expand its Canadian presence with the launch of a new office in Montreal this October.

The Boston-based firm, one of the world’s three largest management consultancies, has operated in Toronto for more than 30 years.

The new office, Bain’s first in Quebec, will open with 30 employees under the leadership of consulting veteran Matthieu Vigneron. The move is aimed at strengthening ties with financial services, retail, utilities, and private capital clients while tapping into Montreal’s talent pool in data science and artificial intelligence, The Globe and Mail reported. Bain already recruits heavily from McGill and other Quebec universities.

“It’s a longer-term play that we’re making here,” Jed Fallis, Bain’s head of Canada and company managing partner, told the Globe. “We look out and see the companies and clients that we do work with, and then the ones that we don’t, and think there’s a lot of opportunity for us.”

Bain’s expansion comes despite a slowdown in the consulting sector, with industry growth lagging global economic performance last year, according to the Globe. The firm has worked with Quebec-based clients such as Desjardins Group, and views AI as a major driver of future demand for advisory services, the Globe reported.

“Montreal’s rich cultural heritage, leading universities and commitment to innovation make it an appealing choice for top business talent,” said Bain on its website.
