Volk Becomes CMHC’s New CEO, Former Edmonton Mayor Iveson Named Chair
Colleen Volk has been appointed as the new president and CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
Volkers replaces Romy Bowers, who left the organization in December to join the International Monetary Fund as its director of risk management. Michel Tremblay, CFO and senior vice-president of corporate services, had been serving as the interim president and CEO.,
Meanwhile, former Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson was named chair of CMHC’s board. Iveson replaces former chair Derek Ballantyne.
Housing Minister Sean Fraser announced the moves Friday in conjunction with other CMHC board appointments.
Volk retired from her post as an Alberta deputy intergovernmental relations minister in 2022. She returns to CMHC after previously spending nine years with the federal housing agency in treasurer, assistant vice-president and managing director roles.
Volk has also served as a deputy energy minister in Alberta and held several deputy minister, assistant deputy minister and deputy secretary positions within various federal ministries, including finance.
In the private sector, she has worked as a senior manager of treasury financing for CIBC and as an analyst with Toronto Dominion Bank.
Iveson served as Edmonton’s 35th mayor from 2013 to 2021 and recently co-chaired Canada’s Task Force for Housing and Climate, a federal-provincial-municipal group. For about the past three years, he served as founder with Civic Good, an Edmonton-based public policy advisory group that he founded.
Civic Good is focused on climate, housing, civic innovation and complex governance.
