West Edmonton Mall to get First Canadian Miniso Land Location

Canada’s first Miniso Land store will open this fall at West Edmonton Mall.

Triple Five Group, the mall’s owner and manager announced via social media that Chinese retailer Miniso has leased a 12,000-square-foot space. The new store is expected to open in November.

The flagship store will be located on Level One, Phase II near the Ice Palace. According to a published report, space will be the largest Miniso store in Canada, occupying the former Urban Outfitters space.

Colliers brokers Tony Savchuk and Afsar Khurshed completed the lease on behalf of Miniso, the report adds.

Unlike typical Miniso stores, which range from 1,200 to 2,500 square feet and carry a curated selection of top-selling items, Miniso Land offers what is described as an immersive, “retail theme park” experience based on specific intellectual properties. The themes and store layout change periodically.

The Edmonton store will feature multiple themed zones with international IP collections, including Disney, One Piece, and Sanrio, alongside Canadian-themed souvenirs, toys, and beauty products, according to the published report, which quotes Miniso Canada CEO Khalid Aberhouch. He told his interviewer that the store’s design and materials alone will cost about $1 million, making their budget larger than those allocated for any other of the chain’s Canadian locations.

The store launch is part of Miniso’s broader Canadian expansion, and the company is also expanding logistics capacity with a second warehouse in B.C. to improve coast-to-coast distribution, the report states.
