Winnipeg Remains Most In-Demand MF Rental Market: RentCafe

Winnipeg is still Canada’s most in-demand multi-family rental market, according to RentCafe’s latest report.

The quarterly report ranks Canada’s top cities based on renter interest.

The Manitoba capital retained the No. 1 spot despite seasonal slowdowns in apartment searches. Edmonton moved into second place, while Victoria, B.C., a secondary market in terms of size, climbed to third. Ottawa and Halifax rounded out the top five, with the Nova Scotia capital jumping six spots from the previous quarter.

Moncton saw the biggest surge, rising 19 spots to claim sixth place, driven by rapid population growth. Kingston, Ont.; Niagara Falls, Ont.; Oshawa, Ont.; and Nanaimo, B.C.; completed the top 10, highlighting increasing interest in mid-sized cities.

Toronto saw a notable six-spot jump to 14th place, as renters sought job opportunities and urban amenities. Calgary ranked 18th, slipping three places, while Vancouver dropped two spots to 23rd, indicating a relative cooling in renter demand.

RentCafe’s rankings are based on multiple factors, including apartment availability, online engagement, and saved searches.
