Amazon Opens its First B.C. Storage and Distribution Centre

Amazon has opened a massive new fulfillment centre in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

The 825,000-square-foot structure is Amazon’s first B.C. storage and distribution fulfillment centre.

Dubbed YXX1, it is designed to support regional fulfillment centres by managing and distributing inventory to help speed up deliveries to customers.

“As Amazon’s first storage and distribution centre in British Columbia, YXX1 marks an important milestone for our business,” said SureshKumar Aruchamy, regional director of operations at Amazon. “The strategic location of YXX1 in the Lower Mainland significantly reinforces Amazon’s ability to deliver to local customers at our fastest speeds ever while creating good jobs and investing in the local economy.”

More than 10 local and national suppliers were engaged in the construction and ongoing operations of the centre, including Graham Construction, BGIS, Can-tec Electrical, and others.

In support of local sustainability efforts, Amazon is donating $35,000 to fund bike- repair stations across Pitt Meadows. The stations will be installed along major commuter routes to promote active transportation and community accessibility.
