Fonds, Montoni Partner on 1.1M-SF Molson Brewery Redevelopment

The Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ and Groupe Montoni will redevelop the 1.1-million-square-foot Molson brewery redevelopment project in Montreal after acquiring a former partner’s interest.

Fonds acquired Groupe Sélection’s stake in the project through a court-monitored bankruptcy protection process and then sold a portion of that interest to Montoni. The deal gives Fonds and Montoni 50-50 ownership in the redevelopment project, the companies said Wednesday in a news release.

Potentially, six million square feet of commercial space could be developed on the site. Plans call for about 5,000 residential units, including affordable social and family housing and 200,000 square feet of retail space, a museum and “brewery experience,” park and school.

Fonds, Montoni and Groupe Sélection had planned to redevelop the site together after acquiring it from from Molson Coors Canada in 2019 for $126 million. The announcement on the revised partnership came one day after Montoni and Legault began construction on a $90-million pet food logistics facility in the Greater Montreal Area.
