Germain Set to Build New Hotel in Ottawa

Germain will start construction on a postponed hotel development in Ottawa in coming weeks.

The Canadian hotelier announced its plans while staging the grand opening for its new hotel in Calgary.

The Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport will be Germain’s third hotel in the nation’s capital and third airport location in the chain. The hotel will also become Montreal-based Germain’s 20th property.

Germain announced plans for the project in 2019 but halted it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A scaled-down version of the original plan will comprise 178 guest rooms, meeting rooms, a gym and a full-service restaurant.

Germain’s other airport hotels are located at Toronto’s Pearson International and Stanfield International in Halifax. The company said the Ottawa project will cost approximately $55 million.

“The unwavering dedication and resilience displayed by the Germain team in overcoming numerous hurdles stand as a testament to their commitment to Ottawa-Gatineau,” said Mark Laroche, the Ottawa International Airport Authority’s president and CEO, in a news release.
