Sustane, Pyrovac Partner on Plastic Recycling Plant Projects
Sustane Technologies and Pyrovac have launched a strategic alliance to scale up plastic-recycling efforts across Canada and beyond.
According to the company, the partnership is dedicated to leveraging breakthrough technology aimed at reducing plastic waste and supporting the circular economy. The firms plan to develop a series of plastic-recycling plants across the globe.
The agreement grants Halifax-headquartered Sustane exclusive access to Quebec-based Pyrovac’s proprietary reactor technology for plastic feedstock. As part of the first phase, a $7-million upgrade will bring two of Pyrovac’s advanced reactors to Sustane’s facility in Chester, N.S.
“This inter-provincial partnership is significant on several levels,” said Peter Vinall, CEO of Sustane. “We’re combining cutting-edge, made-in-Canada technology with 30 years of world-class research and innovation to materially reduce waste plastic and create real economic value.
“Pyrovac’s deep scientific credibility and process-engineering excellence make them the ideal long-term collaborator as together we expand our footprint nationally and ultimately globally.”
The partnership marks the first commercial deployment of Pyrovac’s technology, which has been under development for decades. Pyrovac specializes in converting end-of-life plastics and biomass into high-value fuels and chemicals through a process known as pyrolysis.
“Together, we’re building a foundation for a new kind of materials economy,” said Christian Roy, founder and president of Pyrovac.
The partnership’s financial terms were not disclosed.
