Sarah Esler serves as the Alberta Investment Management Corporation’s (AIMCo) global head of mortgage investments, based in the company’s Toronto office.

She leads the team responsible for managing and expanding AIMCo’s extensive mortgage portfolio across domestic and international markets on behalf of its clients.

Since joining AIMCo in 2016, Esler has been responsible for overseeing investment management and structuring transactions for the corporation’s Canadian, U.S., and European mortgage portfolios. In addition to her core responsibilities, she represents AIMCo in the Investor Leadership Network’s Diversity in Investment initiative and is an active member of AIMCo’s diversity, equity, and inclusion management committee.

Esler holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia, where she specialized in urban land economics. Before her taking on her role at AIMCo, she held progressive positions with MCAP, TD Securities, and Brookfield.

Currently, Esler is co-chair of the Commercial Mortgage Lenders Association (COMLA) and frequently participates as a speaker and lecturer at industry conferences and academic courses. Her contributions include speaking at Canadian Real Estate Forums and helping to teach the Commercial Real Estate Lending course co-ordinated by Realpac and Toronto Metropolitan University. Esler is known as an inspiring role model, mentoring emerging professionals within the commercial real estate industry.

These are just some of the reasons why Esler has been chosen for a Canadian Women in Real Estate Award.
