Helped reposition the firm’s Fund to optimize performance

Leads BGO’s Black Professionals Alliance, an Employee Resource Group

As a BGO vice-president and associate portfolio manager, Tunde Akinyemi plays a key role in supporting the overall strategy, performance, and execution of one of Canada’s leading diversified core real estate funds.

He leads the BGO team responsible for the fund’s analytical and quantitative requirements, assists with daily management and long-term vision, and acts as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders.

Akinyemi helped reposition the fund, shifting property-type weightings for the portfolio’s long-term success through optimization of performance, sector diversification and risk-adjusted returns. He was also involved in securing an investor partnership with one of Canada’s largest banks, which has boosted the fund’s visibility and distribution strategy.

He is an active member and leader of BGO’s Black Professionals Alliance, an Employee Resource Group (ERG). Akinyemi also assists with planning career development programming for ERG members, creating opportunities for exposure, mentorship, and professional growth.

Akinyemi mentors junior analysts and interns on the portfolio and investments teams and is a member of the firm’s Artificial Intelligence Task Force. Outside of BGO. Tunde is involved with Advancing YU, a York University initiative that supports mentorship opportunities for Black and female students.

These are just a few reasons we chose Tunde Akinyemi as one of Connect CRE Canada’s 2025 Next Generation Award winners. Connect CRE’s annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders who will have a strong influence on the commercial real estate industry.
